The Chemistry of Contamination This is produced by the deposition of dissolved salts that are present either alone in the water supply such as limescale or in combination with uric salts. Limescale is almost ineffectively soluble in water and builds upon the exposed surfaces of urinals as the flush water evaporates. This natural development can be increased by the addition of warm urine. Further to the build-up of limescale, uric salts form encrustations on the toilet and urinal surfaces and can cause additional blockages.
