Training is offered at a secondary level in
The courses runs for 37 weeks from September to July. During this time you will be based in schools with training provided by teachers well experienced in both teaching and teacher-training. Training sessions will be practical in nature and will be supported by individual guidance.
The course makes effective use of new technologies to enhance your training. All trainees are provided with a notebook PC (if required) to allow them to access the SCITT Virtual Campus and other online resources.
Training is provided for the 11-18 age range with qualification at the conclusion of the course at 11-16. This gives you time to develop breadth and depth of subject knowledge in the duration of the course. At the end of the course your Career Entry and Development Profile will report on your experiences and capacity to teach all pupils, including those in post-compulsory education.
You must have no illusions about teaching and about training to be a teacher. The course is demanding - physically, emotionally and intellectually - but we know that this helps to prepare you for the demands of teaching. By the end of the course you will be able to meet the challenges of teaching in today's secondary schools.
